Unleashing more costs on ratepayers

Upon being elected Mayor Len Brown promised to lead a council not a state government.

However the Auckland Unleashed discussion document proposes to achieve the goal of “80% of school leavers with Level 1 NCEA”, producing “a children and youth impact report for all council projects and programmes”, and investigating “the option of Auckland Council having a cadetship scheme for supporting young school leavers”.

Does this sound like a council?

How about the proposed Auckland Council target of a “minimum 80% participation in early childhood education Auckland-wide within three years?”. Or the proposed goal of “100% of young people leaving school who are ‘work ready’ with a clear plan for further education, training or a job”.

Is this a cost for ratepayers or taxpayers?

Please have your say on the discussion document for Auckland’s critical 30-year spatial plan before 31 May 2011.
