At 37 years of age, I’m the only one around the council table that demographically represents those Aucklanders say between 35 and 45. Young families are our future. Overall, I think the region is pretty family-friendly. We have beautiful beaches and parks, a lot of free events, and some great state and private schools.
The challenge for our new council is to ensure Auckland grows as a place of preference for young families. That means keeping it affordable, making sure you can get around with relative ease, ensuring education standards are high, and career opportunities remain plentiful.
