Mayor Len Brown officially opened the Orakei Basin walkway on 13 December. The $1.3m, 800-metre timber walkway follows the Eastern railway line across Orakei Basin, effectively linking Meadowbank to Orakei Point for walkers, runners and cyclists.
Funded largely by the former Hobson Bay Community Board, with a contribution from the Eastern Bays Community Board, the walkway provides a well overdue link.
Orakei Board chair Desley Simpson (pictured above with the Mayor and I) has got a number of other local projects to cut the ribbon on in the coming months.
